IETV is part of the evolution of television technology. Television industry also requires innovation in order to boost growth. Therefore, consumers do not buy a new television if there are no new features.
A recent report by research firm DisplaySearch Ltd. revealed, global sales volume of Internet Enabled Television (IETV) in 2010 will penetrate 40 million units. DisplaySearch believe, that figure will soar to 118 million units in 2014. DisplaySearch estimates that in 2010 IETV will control around 19 percent market share in flat-panel TV market globally. DisplaySearch adds, IETV share in the global flat-panel market will increase to 42 percent in 2014.
"Growth IETV increased rapidly. However, this sector will be a fierce battle between the producers to prove their respective claims," said Research Director, DisplaySearch's TV Ltd Paul Gray.
IETV is a television set equipped with internet connectivity, either wired or wireless. As a result, IETV capable of displaying the videos online as it is available on YouTube or videos from offer paid services such as Netflix Inc..
Currently, almost all the major television manufacturers in the world also has been producing IETV. Look at research firm iSuppli Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., LG Electronics Inc., Sony Corp., Panasonic Corp. and Sharp Corp. offers IETV measuring 24 inches by 65 inches. But different than DisplaySearch, iSuppli estimates that global sales volume IETV in 2010 will only reach 27.7 million units.
Still, iSuppli agreed with DisplaySearch that the global market is growing IETV indeed fertile. Thanks to the support of content and diversity of choice, iSuppli estimates that global sales volume IETV will grow an average of 50 percent from 2010 to 2014. Specifically for 2010, iSuppli said global sales volume IETV even able to reach 124.9 percent growth.
Therefore, iSuppli believes IETV global sales volume in 2014 will break the 148.3 million units and the position of at least 54 percent market share in the global flat-panel television. That is, most flat-panel televisions that circulate in the world in 2014 can already access the Internet.
"The presence of IETV is part of the evolution of television technology. Innovation is the main requirement television market growth. For if there is no new technology, so consumers will not be willing to replace the old with the new television," said Director & Principal Analyst, iSuppli Television Systems Corp. Riddhi Patel.
DisplaySearch adds, consumers will no longer hesitate to adopt IETV because IETV technology at this time is getting ripe. Because, IETV been able to serve several functions that previously could only be accessed using a computer, such as video conferencing.
"At home, consumers are certainly more comfortable doing a video conference with IETV than computers because IETV has a much larger screen. However, the Internet television is not only accessible by IETV so that old players face the greater challenge," said Gray.
iSuppli explains, consumers can also access the Internet by adding a television set top box (STB) renderer function Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) television on airplanes that support.
In iSuppli estimates, global sales volume of STB IPTV in 2010 will increase 48.2 percent to 28.7 million units, from 19.4 million units in 2009. iSuppli also estimates, global sales volume of STB IPTV will grow an average of 25 percent per year from 2009 through 2014, with a volume of 58 million units in 2014. The contrast with the STB IPTV, iSuppli asserted, the global sales volume of STB for cable and satellite television services will only grow 6.7 percent in 2010.
iSuppli explains, global sales volume of STB cable and satellite to reach 132 million units in 2009 and will grow an average 8.6 percent per year so that to 199 million units in 2014. Thanks to a very high growth, IPTV STB was able to increase significantly in the global market share of STB in general. iSuppli found that the new IPTV STB controlled 19.3 percent share in the global market in umum.Tetapi STB IPTV STB in 2014 will dominate the global market share of 29.1 percent.
"Therefore, there is no doubt that IPTV be the hottest segment in the global market and STB IPTV STB will be the main driver of growth in global sales volume of STB in general in 2010 and coming years," said Senior Analyst, Broadband Digital Home & IPTV iSuppli Corp. Lee Ratliff.
On the revenue side, iSuppli explains that global sales of IPTV STB capable of generating $ 2, 9 billion in 2009.
