12 inch Netbooks go. Dell Inspiron Mini-12 has, Samsung will make public its 12-inch model netbook to the U.S. in the near future, and more coming. And Intel does not like it at all.
In fact, the whole Netbook market may make them nervous. Despite the fact that the authorities in most of these devices with the new chip Atom, which treats multiple PCs trouble and uses much less energy (such batteries smaller and longer). Intel sees Netbooks as a device for those who can not afford a normal laptop computers, or as a second device. But it is clear that many people buy them instead of the usual dual core machines, despite their very severe limitations.
This means that for the most part, each Netbook sold is one less than the Dual Core Intel, which can be sold at a higher price and higher margin. What explains why the company was publicly criticized the performance of the machine. "If you ever used a Netbook and used 10-inch screen is fine for hours. This is not something you will use in the day," said Intel VP STU Pann at the event last year.
Intel also wants to keep Netbooks by 10 inches or less. Some PC companies we spoke to Intel say that he does not want Atom chips in devices more than 10 inches, and puts incredible pressure on them to keep Netbooks at 10 inches or less. Dell Inspiron Corporation uses the Atom chip in any case, but Samsung uses Via competitiveness (and cheaper) chip, Nano.
We asked Intel, if they prohibit manufacturers build Netbooks with larger than 10 inch screen, which is the fact that the producers tell us (Dell, though). Their response: "Intel netbook defined as 10 or less the size of the screen. We recommend that the netbook and OEM-producers to use this guideline, and to get the best user experience. "
This statement is a pleasure, but it's complete nonsense. There was no loss of performance with 12-inch screen to smaller screen (in addition to energy use). 12-inch Netbook as quickly or slowly, as the 10-inch one. The only difference is that the user is even less likely to buy a laptop with a double bottom core.
Netbooks are clearly here to stay, and new models with big screens and bigger keyboards to solve two of the three issues, I am with them (the most recent issue of Vista and XP, which is bad about these devices, but people are fixing this problem, too).
We will soon see 13 inches and more Netbooks, despite pressure Intel producers to retain their places at 10 inches. Intel, may not agree to have their chips in these devices, but with their excellent Via Nano competitor, it seems more than willing to fill the vacuum.
