Consumer Reports says it can not recommend Apple's iPhone four to consumers after testing confirmed the presence of interference on the receiving device-whether it's published.
Consumer Reports adds that AT & T Inc., the exclusive mobile operator for the iPhone four, not necessarily the main cause.
Influential nonprofit organization that publishes guidelines on various things from cars to TV, said in a report released Monday that they also tested other phones - including the iPhone 3G and Palm Pre - find-missing signal problem on Apple's new iphone.
The report is the latest blow for the iPhone 4, which sold 1.7 million units in the first three days of marketed but disturbed by complaints of poor signal reception. Many complaints about the strength of signal reception antenna, which is said to be affected when the device was digemgam a certain way.
Analysis at the Kaufman Bros., Shaw Wu, said was surprised by the attitude of Consumer Reports about the new iPhone. Wu stressed that the group's recommendations will be used as guidelines by many customers.
"This report is a publication of the esteemed customers. This could impact iPhone sales," said Wu told Reuters.
Apple shares fell 1 percent at 257.06 dollars on Monday afternoon on Nasdaq.
Companies have been sued by iPhone customers at least three complaints related to antenna problems.
"When your finger or hand touching the left side of the phone - the easy things happen, especially at the hands of the left - significantly reduced the direct signal and cause you to lose all connections, especially when you are in an area with a weak signal," said Mike Gikas contributor in a report in Consumer Reports site.
"Our findings invite the question that the latest Apple iPhone 4 signal strength problem is largely an optical illusion caused by faulty software that displays one of two bars in signal strength," said Gikas.
Apple Not Commenting
Gikas recommend cover the gap around the antenna with tape or some other material non-conductive.
Apple said that nearly every phone will have signal loss when gripped in a certain way. Apple later found that software errors exaggerate the signal strength, although not directly address concerns about the antenna with the recognition.
On the other hand, Consumer Reports said, the iPhone scored a high score in tests such as battery, sharp screen, and high quality video camera.
However, Gikas said the signal problem is the reason why the iPhone four devices that are not classified as smart phones are recommended in the rankings.
"Apple needs to release something permanent - and free - to fix the problem before we recommend the iPhone antenna 4," Gikas said in a blog posting at ConsumerReports.org.
